Introduction to NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming)
Welcome to the world of NLP. Neurolinguistic Programming is the systematic study of human performance. This study of the structure of the subjective experience can be broken down into their smallest components (or chunks) and changed, modified, improved upon, or removed. This allows a framework for growth and change at much deeper levels more quickly than was originally thought.
NLP was developed through the efforts of several people. Some of the more notable names are David Gordon, Leslie Cameron-Bandler, Steve and Connirae Andreas, Robert Dilts, Richard Bandler, John Grinder, and many others. Their studies began in the 1970's and have continued to grow to the present. NLP techniques have enabled therapists to be much more effective in assisting change in their client's lives. Neurolinguistic Programming has brought about the ability to analyze and transfer human excellence, thus resulting in the most effective and practical psychology known.
NLP is based on the work of several people who the above studied. They include Alfred Korzybski, Virginia Satir, Milton Erickson, Fritz Pearls and Gregory Bateson, among others. They were chosen as excellence to model.
NLP is a practical application of how people think.
What Is NLP?
NLP is used for personal development and for success in business. NLP is the practice of understanding how people organise their thinking, feeling, language and behaviour to produce the results they do. NLP provides people with a methodology to model outstanding performances achieved by geniuses and leaders in their field.
A key element of NLP is that we form our unique internal mental maps of the world as a product of the way we filter and perceive information absorbed through our five senses from the world around us.
Neuro: Each individual has established their own unique mental filtering system for processing the millions of bits of data being absorbed through the senses. Our first mental map of the world is constituted of internal images, sounds, tactile awareness, internal sensations, tastes and smells that form as result of the neurological filtering process. The first mental map is called 'First Access' in NLP.
Linguistic: We then assign personal meaning to the information being received from the world outside. We form our second mental map by assigning language to the internal images, sounds and feelings, tastes and smells, thus forming everyday conscious awareness. The second mental map is called the Linguistic Map (sometimes known as Linguistic Representation)
Programming: The behavioural response that occurs as a result of neurological filtering processes and the subsequent linguistic map.

This is a hands-on learning experience. Keep an open mind and be willing to try to allow the training to work with you at all levels.
Since 1990, we (Helene and Jack Makani) have taught NLP to thousands of people in Scandinavia, the Russian area and Cyprus. We have enjoyed seeing our students discover new possibilities in their lives and unfold these to the benefit of themselves, their family and friends and the society they live in. Perhaps all learning is about discovering the potential one holds inside oneself and making use of it. This is also what NLP is about and the model has proven very effective for this purpose.
